Feel the Love

My boys enjoyed their first political parade on Saturday.

We marched to thank veterans and spread some Jim Davis cheer. Nice to see so many people smiling, waving, and soaking up the love. My boys did their liberal mother proud – handing out beads, flags, and pushing posters on people too charmed to say no.

When my sons met our future governor, both did the whole “Give me five – up high – down low – you’re too slow” routine. As a mother of growing boys, I’m just glad they didn’t burp or grab themselves.

The great turnout and positive response was heartening. I’ve marched in many a parade, canvassed many a neighborhood. Let’s just say I’m used to a different sort of reaction from the crowd. I shouldn’t be surprised, though. Jim has always transcended politics and affected people in a positive manner.

Besides, this was nothing at all like “Diversity – Damn It!” marches of my youth where I’d shout into a Nazi “church” and end up running for my life. Ahh, I remember it well. Losing the haters somewhere downtown and dipping into The Hub for a cold beer. Hours later Future Husband would provide a safe and sober ride home.

My children should probably be in middle school at least before learning that particular civics lesson.

***UPCOMING EVENT***
Lamers like me who can't score a cheap (read: free) U2 ticket and live where the sheep are nervous can join in the Pasco County Volunteer meeting tomorrow night at the Land O'Lakes Recreation Center from 7-8pm.

Yo Mr. C-

You think that's child abuse???? You should see what they feed us! We're dyin' over here for some partially-hydrogenated, shrink-wrapped, "creme-filled" goodies and the occasional steak.

So what if we're able to pass a baby grand piano through our colons? We want some cheetos!

one word: indoctrination.

I agree with Mr. C. Children can't begin to comprehend politics. Using them as campaign props is exploitation. It's disgusting enough when politicians do it, let alone mothers.

That's not what Mr. C was saying. He digs my exploitation.

Actually, you wanna relax? It's not like I have them in white hoods or anything. They're out meeting people and participating in events that effect them in one way or another. Taking children to sporting events, church or synagogue is no different. We're teaching them social activism and encouraging them to participate in their community.

So sue me.

I agree, Kate. You aren't exploiting them at all. So keep on keepin' on. :-) Marc, what's up with Curt? Curt, RELAX!

I guess the day has come when I have to watch my sarcasm on comments in Out in Left Field. What is this world coming to?

Since I'm not clear if Steve is on the sarcasm train with me or taking this way too seriously, let me clear up - anytime someone takes a child to a rally for a democrat for any elective office it must immediately be classified as child abuse. ;-) Like spilling beer on a nonlickable floor - clear case of alcohol abuse right there.

Steve, I don't know about the exploitation thing. I couldn't be happier to see a woman involved in politics and getting child(ren) into the act. And you know, that's really what goes on at democrat rallies, its all an act. I feel where you are coming from, but it happens all the time in politics. I mean, take the democrats for instance - they claim the GOP are bunch of haters, then they expect votes from entire demographic groups of people they have done nothing, are doing nothing, and will do nothing for. The worst kind of hate is when it comes from people you trust with your vote.

The real problem with democrats is they are democrats. Their policies don't work. They never have. It isn't that they are teaching their children to be democrats, I mean, who cares? They can't vote until they are 18 and most don't vote until they are well into their 30's, if at all. By then they are usually married, with kids and being taxed all to hell. The perfect recipe for being a Republican is being raised democrat then having to pay the bill your parents saddled you with because of their insane liberal policies.

Kate, keep up the good work. tsk tsk. You didn't think I could come in here and support you without taking a shot at someone? Did you? Might as well be democrats. I purposely avoided Jim Davis specifically since I secretly fear the ability of bloggin jewish mothers to exact revenge on unsuspecting GOP operatives.

I'm glad to see you're on my side. (???)

I only keep you around because you look good in a thong. And you're right about us Jewish mommas...
