Still a Feminist

I’ve thought about this for a long time, weighed the pros and cons, and listened to arguments both for and against. (Although, feel free to add more.) I am aware that liberal and feminist friends are angered and disgusted by what I’m about to say and do.

Still. I’ve gotta be me.

I’m looking to bring another man into my life. That’s right. Another man or woman. Lord knows, I won’t discriminate. He/She must have one qualification: the talent to rearrange my body so that I resemble a normal human being once more.

It’s a simple dream, really. I’d like to swim in a pool without frightening small children, shake my groove thing without getting arrested, and attend galas in beautiful gowns without causing other revelers to upchuck expensive cuisine.

I will never look like Pamela Anderson. I know. But I’d like to look like me again.

After years of exercising, sweating, bending, twisting, I’m back at pre-pregnancy weight. I’ve done all I can do and yet I’m still a mess. Which is why I need a physician’s services. Can’t an evolved woman care about how she looks without clothes on? God love him, my husband has never complained or averted his eyes. Which is why I will only show him the results of said surgery for at least the first year. Then I’ll be flashing the girls all over town. Guaranteed.

Do you know anyone who’s had some work done? I’m talking about reduction, lift, and tuck – people. What about docs in the bay area who will be willing to work their magic for under $25K? Please pass along any insight or information as I’m ready to give it a go.

Betcha can’t wait to see pictures.

Wow, I don't know what to say.....
I wasn't expecting a post from you saying you wanted surgery.
I am almost 42. I have only had one child. My body will never be the same as what I was before I had him, unless I worked out for hours a day, every day. I don't have the time for that, the want or the need.. I do admire woman's bodies who are tight and toned, especially if they have children.
You look like you are in great shape from your photos.
If I had 25K to spend, I would spend it on my house. New windows, kitchen, etc....
But...to each his own. I don't know any good docs in Florida who do this kind of work...but hopefully one of your faithful readers can help you out. Best of luck to you on whatever you chose to do...and yes...the pics would be great!!!!!

KDR, who knew you had such a writing talent? ..."but I gotta be me"...just as rich as the abortion line - "you go first" - a few posts back. Ah, vintage KDR. Anyway, I can tell you who I'll be using after my second child is born. His name is Dr. Lewis Berger. Don't have the number off-hand but he is located in Tampa. He has seen friends and family. Have no idea about price as this is deemed cosmetic and not covered by the insurance co. That's a whole other blog.

The fact is you do look like you. You are "you". It is my belief that self improvement doesn't come at the end of a knife. Case in point. Have you ever met a beatiful person and after having known them for a short time started to dislike them? It was their character that pushed you away. So if you have a solid character and a good heart...that's priceless. The rest is just skin deep.

These ladies aren't talking about cosmetic surgery, as in face lifts, they're talking about bringing their breasts up from their ankles.

...and there is nothing wrong with that.

Please. Let's not overexaggerate the situation. Bellybuttons MAYBE...not ankles.

Okay, Jeff and Julie - please stop freaking me out.

That Dr. Berger must be a miracle worker as I can't get in for a consult until APRIL! I gave them your name as the reference, Sharon. Maybe you'll get a discount? If I could get more than 3 readers a day maybe with advertising I could get a discount...well, I won't hold my breath.

I remember years ago when you referred me to a nice doctor who made my legs all vein free and pretty so it's only right you're involved with this as well. And since it will probably take until next summer for me to save up for this horribly expensive vanity trip - April ain't so bad.

This is fun, no?

Naked pictures of KDR, aka Teddy Robinson? I'd eat Tofurkey with Mikey's angry Russian neighbors for that.

Hello!

Thankfully, feminism isn't just one thing, there are lots of different feminists out there -- and we don't always agree. One of the things I loved about feminists when I was in grad school? They exemplified a model of self-reflectivity and self-criticism, a willingness to rethink the strongly held positions they'd once had. Things weren't always sweetness and light, but after the fireworks, debates, volatile arguments many of us would say, "Hey, you know, I was wrong about that and I've learned from this criticism and that one over there. Thanks for keeping the fire to my feet."

Not all of us are as good at that as we'd like but I think there's a sensitivity to watching others cling tightly to their ideas.

All of that by way of saying, there are plenty of feminists who don't think that getting a tummy tuck or a face lift is neccessarily selling out. Consider, for example, Martha Nussbaum (a feminist philosopher) who was featured on the front of the New York Times Magazine, all svelte and well-defined from running and lifting weights, as I recall.

I can't help you with suggestions about good plastic surgeons, but I will ask my son's gf who works for a law firm. Someone there might have a good idea. it's a malpractice law firm, so that can't hurt! :)
