Fasano - Buying Time

I'm suspicious of the motives behind so many politicians quick to make a new vaccine mandatory. Why are they in such a hurry to vaccinate young girls against a sexually transmitted disease that *may* lead to cervical cancer? Why should such medicine, not quite tested by time, be required?

The FDA approved the drug less than a year ago, people.

I'm not in bed with conservatives on this one; it isn't a sex issue. It's a public health issue and I'm sick of commercials, recommendations, and now, requirements, for drugs that are rushed into the marketplace too quickly.

I don't want anyone's daughter playing the role of lab rat. Thanks anyway.

We've all been turned into lab rats orsimply thought of as numbers to Big Pharma and their lobbyists and allies in congress. There are protections written into congressional bills that prevent lawsuits on some of these vaccines you are suspicious of.

It's funny how liberal and conservative are flipped on this -- conservatives (politicians -- I don't know about their supporters) are quick to help profits and appropve safety nets for these drug companies while liberals want more testing, more time taken and no mandatory implementation of these vaccines.

Kate, are you sure you are not in "bed" with conservatives... j/k

I find it kinda ridiculous to mandate something that stops a virus that can, may, possibly, in a small number... lead to cervical cancer.

Other vaccines stop a direct disease from hitting our children, or us... this vaccine stops an STD, that if not treated, or treated well, and gets progressively worse over time... could.. not quite the same as tuberculosis.

And im not speaking from any moral ground either... maybe they should recommend it, if they like the idea, but mandating it..

We know gynecologists, and they dont even consider HPV a disease, b/c it is so common that its just something a lot of people have, 1 in 4 women in fact, yet 1 in 4 women dont get cervical cancer... its about less than 3-5% of the ones that get the HPV.

Obviously there are other types of cervical cancer, but those are caused by other things...

Well we certainly know if the FDA has approved it, it's got to be good for us. (sarcasm - of course)

Thanks for keeping a SPOTLIGHT ON THIS

We don't HAVE to be lab rats. Only if we agree to do so.
