Of Course, I'd Rather Be Naked
Fur is dead. And yucky.
Usually the skinning-alive process is pretty grotesque, therefore wearing the poor baby's skin and all just invites bad karma and happenings upon your person.
Wait and see. I'm always right.
Several people are up in arms because dog fur has been sold on jackets in this country. Minks? Fine. Man's best friend? Not so much.
From the Humane Society:
H.R. 891, introduced by Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) and Rep. Mike FergusonPlease take just a moment to contact your member of Congress today. Tell lawmakers that dogs should be spared from misery and consumers spared from deception.
(R-NJ), would require all fur-trimmed garments to be labeled, which would help
prevent dog fur from slipping into the country. And it would prohibit the sale
of fur from raccoon dogs, members of the dog family who were seen being skinned
alive in undercover video footage.
We wanna pet Fido. Not wear him.

Far be it from me to cause an argument; however, how about if I throw out a bone of contention for a change. It can be a doggie or a mink bone, you choose.
I will preface by saying my dog is beautiful, personable and a delight to have around. There is no better burglar or fire alarm. In fact, I adopted him as a puppy when my daughter was reaching the age of being able to spend a few minutes by her self at home while I ran to the store. Having my cell phone nearby and my dog at home with my daughter helped me feel more confident she was safe as we both tested the waters outside of the nest. He is a precious member of my home and I love him.
But, and you knew a "but" was coming; here are my thoughts concerning animals in general, or all animals below Homo Sapiens Sapiens. Stated purely and simply animals are not conscious in the way you and I are. Essentially, they are magnificently complex biological robots. So complex, in fact, that the human-made variety are equal to the wag of a tail of one of these magnificent creatures.
Any consciousness they may experience is nothing more than what an infant might possess. Absolutely no awareness beyond what is required to survive. Another way to look at it is when someone drinks to the point of blacking out. Even though the levels of their brain that experiences consciousness are no longer functioning, they are still capable of complex behavior. Such a person can actually drive home, with all the complexities that involves, park the car, get out, go inside, make a sandwich, hold a simple conversion, and collapse in bed, and not be aware of any of it. We know it happened because someone witnessed it, but it is as if it never existed to the blacked out individual. (I do not necessarily have first-hand knowledge of this, but, apparently, it happened.) It is a fact that people sleep-walk and function at rudimentary levels while being totally unconscious.
I believe a compassionate God would not put animals on the earth to be subject to the horrible cruelties of their fellow humans without assuring they knew nothing of it. We can barely fathom the totality of pain and suffering animals experience daily around the world. To think any of them actually experiencing it as we do is too much to comprehend.
Like plants, the exquisitely diverse and extraordinary collection of animals around us exists for the sake of existing and nothing more.
So...we should make infant-skin coats instead?
