Pay Attention to the Fine Print
According the Trib, Hillsborough County's School Board is ready to drop from its calender all religious holidays next year, except Christmas. Because the Lord's birthday just happens to coincide with Winter Break. Nice how that works out. Oh well, no more Good Friday, Rosh Hashanah or Fair Day.
Fair enough.
The end of the article hits you with news that our board might also change "its meetings from evenings to daytime starting in April, hearing public comments earlier in those meetings, and giving some speakers more time. The proposal comes after a meeting last week at which irate teachers waited nearly four hours to speak about schedule changes and were given two minutes each."
Yes, imagine how thrilled teachers will be when they hear that meetings will soon take place when they're...wait for it...want it...own it...that's right - teaching!
Fan-f*cking-tastic, Elia. You guys rock.

Actions speak louder than words. This proposal makes it obvious that the school board is not interested in what the teachers, or anyone else who works traditional hours, have to say. Not surprising but disappointing all the same!
Hello and how nice. So now after the last school board mtg in which the teachers didn't (purposely) have enough time to speak their concerns, the school board is now considering changing the time of the mtg to an earlier time. So how early Mary Ellen? Might it be so early that teachers cannot attent the mtg because they might coincidently be teaching? Might it be that administrators will be told not to give teachers time off for such requests unless they are willing to use their own time and be docked? Oh, yes, docked. We are after all hourly paid employees. .....and we are the only educated profession which does not receive a paid vaction. Not even after 10, 20 or 30 years as in business and around the world. Sure we are on "vacation" over the December holidays and summer, but how much fun is it to be on "vacation" when there is no income. Oh, yes, get another job. OK, already have one.
So back to my point, more disrespect and a good old kick to the curb regarding the school board mtg time. Is this a new and improved approach or is this the same old abusive treatment?
What a most wonderful district! At our district meetings, people are allowed to talk but the decisions have already been made. Oh, wait, that's Hillsborough too? Your district sucks.
