My New Hometown Paper
As Colorado Media Matters has noted (here and here), The Gazette in previous editorials has made numerous false and misleading statements about the (Scooter) Libby case.
And so the trend continues.
Fantastic.

I fail to see the problem in that they are op-ed pieces. That's the whole point of op-ed pieces, you can decide for yourself whether you agree with the conclusions of the writer or not. So far all you've noted is that the Colorado Media Matters group believes that some of the things that were said were, in their opinion, "false and misleading." That doesn't mean they were.
So IOW someone could turn around and write an op-ed piece on how the Colorado Media Matters group has misrepresented what the Gazette was saying. So in a different way than you meant, I do find the ability of free Americans to do these type of things as being "fantastic."
I have no problem with op-ed pieces, and since I've written more than a few, I'm aware of how they work and what they invoke in free thinking Americans.
However, when a newspaper perpetuates falsehoods and misrepresents the facts - therein lies the problem. Now, you may find that such misrepresentations don't bother you.
Fine. That's something we can agree or disagree with, but the facts should speak for themselves.
Perhaps it's each reader's responsibility to seek out the facts so they know when they're local papers are spinning, opining, or just plain full of shit.
I'd just rather our newspapers get it right.
First of all I would have to agree that it's a misrepresentation, However, I'm betting I could find some op-eds that I believe perpetauted falsehoods, etc... where you would say the newspaper got it right.
Reader's responsibility to seek out the facts regarding an op-ed piece, or any story for that matter? Yeah, I'll go along with that.
