No Nukes

Yesterday, the New York Times reported that nuclear power industry lobbyists were able to bury without review a provision in the energy bill passed by the Senate.

Cause Senators figure we're too busy worrying about Nicole Richie to notice.

This provision could provide for tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to build new nuclear power plants.

Unless the House takes action to sh*tcan these subsidies, we could end up with an energy bill that provides $25 billion for new nuclear power plants and only $4 billion for alternative energy.

Take action now to block funding for new nuclear power plants.

The House of Representatives is set to vote this Friday on comprehensive energy legislation that will be combined with the Senate bill. This House bill may be our only opportunity this year to ensure that our tax dollars are invested in renewable energy sources -- like solar and wind -- and not nuclear power.

Tell your representative to fully fund renewable energy, not new nuclear plants.

I thought about trying yet again to try and educate you... but it doesn't seem to work.

Oh, don't give up on me. I appreciate your point of view. Just have my own is all. And I'd like to see renewable energy funded in a bigger way.

Wait a sec.

You don't want carbon emissions. Carbon footprint, bad. Non-carbon footprint, good.

The only energy source that doesn't emit carbon: nuclear.

One nuclear plant's power could replace how many millions tons of coal and fossil fuel emissions?

Even the guy who used to be the head of Greenpeace is pushing for the building of more and better-designed nuke plants.

And you're dead set against nuclear?

:::::shaking my head like the Aflac duck::::

I'm not saying put one in every back yard.

I'm just saying you can't just take it totally off the table when the safety record is so much better than compared to other industries and when everyone is running around squawking about "we're gonna be under water in 50 years." That's all I'm saying.

That was a different Jeff, btw.

That's not to say I'm against wind or solar or geothermal or :::yawn:::

I'm just saying you get a bigger faster impact for your dollar.

I'm worried about nuclear waste and would like to see *more* money spent on renewable sources of energy.

I'd also like to see more people use/eat/consume/buy/destroy less of what we have to offer.

So sue me. I'm a dreamer.

But I'm not alone. Maybe someday you'll join us...

Yeah, but if you block funding for new nuke plants, you leave the old ones in their place. And old ones tend to not hold their nuclear waste as well as new ones with updated designs...

I'm just saying...
