Assbag of the Week – Laura Hagan

Some animal-rights activists give the rest of us a bad name.

Rolo, a German Shepherd who spends most days terrorizing his suburban Denver neighborhood, recently attacked a woman who was outside walking with her baby. After carefully considering the evidence and listening to many neighbors who reported the dog aggressive and feared for their safety, Arvada Municipal Judge George W. Boyle ordered the dog euthanized.

That’s when motherf*ckers lost their minds.

Read this article or visit this website and try not to throw up.

DISCLOSURE: I like animals. In fact, I like them so much, I don’t eat or wear them. I also don’t like to touch or kiss them. But that’s another post entirely.

Laura Hagan, dog owner from Loo-Loo Land, is an assbag. Of the highest order.

Hagan shouted, "Oh no. It's my baby, it's my child."

Rolo is not a child. Rolo is not a baby. Rolo is not a human being.

Rolo is a dog.

According to Hagan, Rolo attacked Kathy Hardin “only because she was screaming loudly” as Rolo charged Hardin’s baby.

What mother wouldn’t scream at such a sight?

Instead of remembering that we are made in God’s image, not Fido’s, and taking painful but necessary measures to make sure no one is ever harmed again – Laura Hagan is blaming the victim.

Meanwhile, Kathy Hardin, who’s been harmed physically as well as mentally thanks to death threats from crazy-ass fools who believe an animal is more important than a human being, has decided to move away from Arvada .

She can’t take the hate anymore.

But Laura Hagan, with misplaced priorities and twisted values, feels perfectly safe rallying against a judge who is trying to protect the people.

Hagan and her crew of Dog-Loving Dunces have been holding rallies, gathering petitions, and protesting the courthouse as well.

Here’s what the rest of us can do:

Side with innocent children over aggressive dogs.

Call the good judge and tell him that you support his decision to put people first.

Phone: (720) 898-7150
Fax: (720) 898-7164 (available 24 hours a day)

One of Hagan’s frightened neighbors made a great point: "We have to ask ourselves very, very carefully if one of the children in this neighborhood has to die to save a dog."

I love animals (yeah, I eat still eat 'em), but I cannot even remotely comprehend the sociopathy of some animal rights' activists.
They are just batshit insane.
I used to sympathize with PETA because I knew little about them except for their title. Then I saw the Penn & Teller "Bullshit" episode on them and my jaw dropped.

If Rolo is Hagen's "Baby" then I would consider Hagen a bad mother.

I'm a dog owner and I've learned that any bad habits my dog picks up -- it's my fault (or the fault of my immediate family). That's the truth with any dog owner. Rolo committed the crime, Hagen is a criminal though.

Rolo could probably be rehabilitated -- possibly -- but Hagen is the one who needs more rehabilitation than Rolo. You have to set limits for the dog, you have to set rules... That's how dog packs work, that's how other pack animals live... But for a dog to have free reign? That's an accident waiting to happen.

Yeah, I subscribe to Cesar Millan's dog code... That doesn't mean I think Rolo ought to be allowed to live if he's learned to attack people and not treat them like superiors. But honestly -- this is Hagen's crime as much as the dog's.

PETA? There's no ethics in treating a dog like a human and expecting leniency because a dog happened to commit a crime.

jpf is right. Bad behavior in dogs, 9 times out of 10, is directly attributable to the owners and the 10th time is usually due to bad behavior on the owner's part (not leashing the dog, etc.).

And you are also right, Kate. Rolo is a dog. A domesticated animal that processes information in a very different way from human beings.

So really, Hagan has a point. Punishing Rolo is pointless and sort of cruel as he was only acting in the manner his owner has trained him to act in.

Let Rolo live and possibly be retrained. And then removed from Hagan's custody as she obviously can not deal with the responsibility of large dog ownership.

Poor or no training in large, aggressive dogs is just as dangerous and criminal as training them for dog fighting like Michael Vick. So punish the real culprit of this tale if you don't want it to happen again. Send Hagan to jail.

This dog has never bitten anyone before. The paramedics on he scene said the bite did not break the skin. The lady who was bitten in the butt screamed while she scooped up her child. It is possible this dog thought she was harming the child. Check out the photos of the dog playing with other small children at rolodog.com

An order for the dog to be put to death seems to be very harsh for a first offense, particularly since not of the neighbors who paraded in front of the judge to testify against the dog witnessed the incident. One of them actually said all she has observed was the dog barking behind a fence.

My point is that there is another side to this story than is reflected in your statement that Rolo spends his days terrorizing the neighborhood.

How dare you refer to her as an "assbag"?
a) she can not have children
b) the dog did not bite the lady
c) the owner came directly out after the dog mistakenly got out and immediately after the incident made plans to put up a better fence, replace the gate and go to training with the dog.

Perhaps there should be a "special" neighborhood for mothers like you and her. My son got bit by a dog on his way home from school. The dog accidentally got loose, he got scared and ran, and the dog bit him. Did I do anything? Nope. Taught him not to run when he sees dogs.

Thanks for the number and fax, I'm using them to SHOW my support for both Lisa and Rolo.

Oh, and I nominate you for "assbag" of the week.

you referenced the dog's website - did you even read the facts before jumping declaring "death to the dog"??

Animal control and the paramedics said it was a scratch, it did not break the skin.

the dog trainers said the dog is not aggressive he just needs a bit mroe training which the owner was already starting to do.

Now, two police K-9 officers have met the dog and say he is not aggressive and even suggest he get trained for search and rescue or narcotics detection.

the dog and owner have already been punished enough. Furthermore as the expert dog trainers/handlers have said Rolo is not the kind of dog that goes around mauling people. Do you not believe in 'second chances'?? I sure hope you never become a judge!!

Many of us have dogs. Some of us are able to interpret dogs' emotional states and behavior, which can be quite complex, just as our own. Some of us don't understand the signs of a dog and feel downright terrified at a deep growl, a snarling face or flashing teeth. These visual signs are signals for us to comprehend a dog's expression; some of us are willing to do that, others are virtually illiterate in the language of dogs. When a dog is reacting because he is frightened, he can express this in an agressive snarl or nip. He feels threatened and might not want to hurt anyone. He is trying to defend himself, and he's using the only means he has.

We respond, understandingly, with our own set of fears. As primates, we have a visceral reaction to something coming at us with teeth bared, as well we should. Nothing like a set of white teeth gets a rise out of your limbic system, even if we notice the dog's facial expression of fear. We would be wise to see the world through the dog's eyes, at least to acknowledge that fear is one component of a dog's behavior. It is a sad irony that one of the things we share with dogs is the tendency to become aggressive when we're frightened.

Rolo is a large-breed dog. He reacted to a fear-induced situation. "I don't know who you are and I am nervous about that. For all I know you might be dangerous. If you stay there and don't move forward, I'll stay here. But if you move FAST or reach your hand toward me, I'll be forced to protect myself. I am uncomfortable, on guard and perfectly willing to protect myself". If a fast move and loud scream triggered Rolo's reaction, it is obvious it was based on fear. If Rolo was aggressive or wanted to hurt this person, he would have done so when he had the chance.

Too often, dogs become victims in a societythat lacks true understanding on canine behavior. They are led by their own fears and misinterpret the dog's actions. It is time that people open up their minds and are more willing to learn how to overcome this. A nip like Rolo's is not the reaction of a truly dangerous, aggressive dog. The conditions of anxious/fearful dogs that also have social-interaction problems can be cured or substantially improved. Rolo's life is being compromised amongst judgements that are not based on facts about real dogs and their behavior.

Dogs offer a complex web of emotions that sometimes bind, sometimes damage our relationship with them. But it is up to us to be willing to learn and understand them better, instead of being led by our own fear and judge and condemn, when it is really us who do not understand them. Rolo is not a dangerous dog, nor did he cause serious harm. He responded to a sudden sound, a fast move, and reacted. Animals are sentient beings and to kill a dog like Rolo, incarcerate him in a unfamiliar place away from home, to call him aggressive and dangerous, leads once again to the question: Do we really understand our companion dogs? Do we judge Rolo, or are we willing to learn more about man's best friend ?

Catherine: You seem full of inner rage. Do you get a thrill out of lies ? Rolo has not done what you claim. You pick dog people to pieces. Your barrage of insults are scary. You seem out of touch with not only the reality, but have a fanatic attitude that seems a threat to anyone not living by your code of ethics. Give a list of incidents concerning Rolo. Your letter of disdain is disturbing. Top K-9 Trainers have visited + evaluated Rolo. He would make a great search/sniff dog they say. Your stone heart must have never been touched by an animal. Rolo is caught in our pathetic system that allows people like you to spread fishy lies, misleading the public for the sake of personal gain, while an animal suffers - and we need to change that. The only threat here are folks like you who need a checkup from the neck up. Attend a canine college and educate yourself. Maybe there is some hope for lost people like you.

Oh sure. In between raising kids and getting through all the goddamn snow, I think I'll enroll in canine college so I can tell the difference between a growl and a snarl.

Right.

Your dog-loving friends are leaving comments all over my site calling for the death of women and "ugly" babies and *I'm* full of rage?

The only thing scary about me is my hair.

So bite it.

I agree, it's not just your hair though, your photo ain't very impressive either. You might be more successful on Colfax Ave. -
Get rid of you anxiety there Darling.

This is a teacher??? A mother???? Oh my, no wonder our schools and kids have gone so wrong.
I would NEVER allow my children in a class with a woman who has so little. Such foul language, such angry barbs, such disgusting photos of herself. But I guess if you look like that, it's the only way to get attention. Good thing Laura doesn't have to resort to any of this.

At 1/08/2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Please just assure all of us 'Dunces' that you don't own a dog and never plan to.
Sadly there are children in this maniac's care. Frightening for them. Social Servies are you out there?
What a piece of work!!!!!
*Note most of the people who comment don't have to resort to the vulgar language and crude comments that you are so proud of. Have you considered medication or counceling?
Laura has shown herself to be a lady with dinity and class...she would never resort to this kind of low life activity.
Keep Rolo and Laura in your prayers, and you might want to add Kate's children. My heart goes out to them, as well.

People, why are you giving this nut her 15 minutes of 'fame'? She 'gets off' on adversity.
From the looks of her picture, and the pose...she has to do that alone anyway....so why not leave her alone in her misery.
We have more important issues to be working on.

Personally, I am not animal rights activist but I am very concerned that our justice system can order a dog to be destroyed over such a minor first offense.
This is outrageous!
I am inspired by Laura H, it shows what one small voice can do. She has reached a lot people and brought a serious issue (that our coust system can order our family pets to be destroyed at their discretion)to the public's attention.
Laura is determined, intelligent and beautiful, maybe Kate is a little jealous???
Oh and what is an assbag anyway?

At 1/09/2008, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'd like to know too, assbag ? No such listing in the dictionary.
Might be the language they speak on Kate's planet.
Laura H. has shown that we need to stand up for what we believe in.
We cannot let aliens such as the ones on Kate's planet brainwash the public.
Deep love and compassion for the animals that share our lives will let us receive a precious gift from them - their love and trust.
There are people who never have experienced their steadfast loyalty and devotion.
Animals are messengers and teachers. It is sad that Kate can't open her heart more. Maybe she is too busy raising her kids and driving thru the snow.
I am proud of Laura and admire her for her courage. Wish there were more like her !!!!!

"Who spends most days terrorizing his...neighborhood"

OMG, that's total distortion of the truth and you know it. Read the transcripts again, you filty liar! The dog barked from behind his fence. That's what dogs do. The dog was NEVER loose off the leash in his neighborhood before this incident. The neighbors have lied about this all along to distort the truth, and you are not helping.

You obviously only base your facts on the media.

Wow. Just unbelievable.

You are a genuine wacko, clearly that does not have the capacity to learn about the truth.

I pray for Rolo, Miss Hagan, and your children.

Read the facts and transcripts from the first trial at www.rolodog.com

Save Rolo!

Dog bites boy and saves him from house fire! In today's news! No, really, click on the link:

What do you have to say to that?

The dog is described as protective, just like Rolo.

Who's the asshat now?

Wait, I bet you think that dog should be put to sleep, too.

People like you should be banned from breeding. I feel sorry for your children!

Hmmmm...Freelance writer? Ha! I've pulled better writing out of picture books. I find it ironic you are so passionate about something you really know nothing about. Education? you must be teaching the rednecks of society, because your response to Rolo is pure Robert Byrd, yes you are allowed to look it up. For a liberal your views seem well...conservative to say the least, almost as conservative as a quail-faced man hunter. If you don't like to touch or kiss animals, then those twins of your's must be very deprived. As for Loo Loo land, well, sorry to be so elementary, but it takes one to know one.

"Assbag"? "Loo-loo land"? Before slandering animal lovers and posting pompeous, windy, and ill-informed diatribes on a self-righteous blog, try becoming literate.

BTW, your opinion of "god's image" is not the rule of law in this land. Hagan has every right under the law to appeal the decision and try to save her dog's life. FYI, a dog reflects "god's image" every bit as much as a human does, since he or she is a part of god's creation, too. Don't be in such a hurry to destroy what god hath wrought lest you be consigned to his/her wrath. Another friendly suggestion: stop praying loudly on street corners or preying on animal lovers. Learn to read something other than Focus on the Family propaganda--those latter-day Pharisees--and develop some of the compassion that Jesus actually taught. Amen, over and out.

"What mother wouldn't scream at such a sight?" Well, one with her wits about her, and one without dollar signs in her mind. Without a doubt, the dog needs more training and the owner a better containment system. She should be fined if she hasn't already been, put up a escape-proof fence, and have mandatory training for herself & the dog. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do for the "victim's" lack of common sense. However, the "bite" by all reports did not break the skin. And the woman's shrieking undoubtedly added to the situation. What is truly cruel in this situation is keeping this poor dog confined in a 4 X 6 cage for five months. The judge needs to make a decision and let everyone move on.
DISCLOSURE: You're out in left field, all right.

At 2/26/2008, Blogger JKL said...

Since the dog only scratched the "victim" (and that is documented), wouldn't it sound more like the "victim" needs a law suit? Considering she has to have Months of therapy, I take it she is a bumbling mess to begin with. And so is her idiotic fan club. Rolo nor Laura is not the problem here. By the way, thanks for the fax. I will use it too!

I find your rant to be one-sided and lacking essential facts. Your use of obscenities and name-calling does not strengthen your argument, but instead reduces your creditability. In the future, please acquaint yourself with the full facts of a situation/issue and spare us from another of your puerile diatribes.

Well that courtroom sure was full of determined phony drama queens and whacko actors. Even the judge didn't believe their horror stories. And the husband tripped over his own arrogance and looked like a fool.
Rolo gets to go home where he belongs. And that won't be in whackotown Arvada.
Laura will go on National TV and tell her story. She will send a message and make society aware of the whackos who use dogs such as hers as pawns for personal gain.
What goes around comes around. Just wait and see.
By the way, your photos still haven't improved. If you want to show your boobs, get a boob job.

yeah the trial sure was a circus wasnt it! The defense attorneys did a great job making the facts known and exposing the prosecution's baseless assertions for wanting the dog put down.

Not only did the new judge find Rolo to not be vicious, but it became clear that it's Hardin and her neighbors who are vicious. in the courtroom one of them testified that they had circulated a petition asking that Rolo be destroyed. And this because of the scratch (the paramedic testified that it was only a scratch with no puncture and no bleeding and other witnesses also said it was a scratch) and for barking at the fence which they used as the primary reason to say he's vicious. (But when the defense attorney cross examined them they admitted their own dogs also bark at the fence....) Not only did they ask for Rolo to be euthanized based on these MINOR reasons, but furthermore if they were so upset about Rolo why didn't they confront Laura rather than quietly petitioning behind her back asking for her dog to be destroyed? This is disgusting and I sure hope I never have the misfortune of living near these kinds of people!
