For the Liberal on Your List

During my tequila tirade the other night, one of the things I remember vividly is when Becky gave me these delightful mints for the holidays.

With instructions.

She insists I am to display them on my desk at school. Every time a conservative comes into my classroom to bash my political heroes, hairdo, or "hippie clothes" - I am to offer them a mint.

And smile.

Meanwhile, out in the real world, the approval
ratings for the democrat-party led Congress
are the lowest in history. Maybe we DO need
some impeachMINTS, starting with Nancy
Pelosi and Harry Reid and moving right on
through the democrat leadership.

Oh, I love these. I love that whole site. If I had seen those before Chanukah, I would have bought some of those mints and the squishy Dubuya for my husband. Thanks for the link and the laugh.

They certainly are, if nothing else, a do-nothing Congress. They are very far from keeping all the promises they made last election.

Anon at 9:35am - You've got a host of crazy and corrupt characters starting at the bottom and leading straight up George Bush's own ass. And you wanna attack Nancy Pelosi?

The fact that Congress sucks doesn't make your guys smell any sweeter.

Do you realize you can't defend the crooks you side with and so are trying a grown up version of "I know you are, but what am I?"

No wonder you don't sign your name.

Oooooo. Got her pissed off. Must be because I posted some truth. That always seems to do it.

The fact that you attempt to ignore that Congress sucks doesn't make your guys smell any sweeter, by the way.

And I'll bet you dollars to donuts that George Bush is FAR less corrupt than Harry Reid....you know him....the majority leader of the Senate who was involved in so many corrupt land deals and such like in Nevada?

AH, but go ahead and stick your head in the sand with respect to the democrats......they'll do just what they normally do, which is screw you and all the other taxpayers while pretending to be pure and noble angels. And in the meantime, keep on attacking anyone who dares to point out that you're hypocritically ignoring democrat corruption simply because you hate republicans so much.

Anon -- getting someone to reply doesn't mean you posted "truth". In this case, you tried to pass the buck and you were called on it. If you're going to crow about that -- you look even more pathetic than you did to begin with.

Like, wow, I'm really SO intimidated by that baseless namecalling. I notice you can't refute any of the facts I presented, like the fact that this is the most unpopular Congress in history, so I guess hateful namecalling is all you've got. Very impressive demonstration, that. (Not!)

It's important to remember that Congress "sucks" not because of what it wants to do, but because of its lack of spine.

The majority of voters want the Democrat-led Congress to do exactly what they promised to do when they were elected. Primarily, stop the war and bring our troops home. The frustration is not that this goal is being attempted, but that the Democrat Congressional majority seems unwilling to stand up to Bush and even try.

Not content with bullying the rest of the world, BushCo has managed to intimidate the Democrat-led Congress into doing nothing and challenging him on nothing. Finally, some Democrat leaders are coming forward and showing some leadership (and some balls) to at least make stands. Case in point is Dodd's filibuster on the telecom immunity bill. It will be interesting to see if Dodd's example motivates Pelosi to actually see something through, even if it does die on Bush's desk.

The upshot is that people aren't happy with anyone on Capital Hill at the moment and feel frustrated by the whole thing. The majority want the war in Iraq over and don't understand why the Congress they specifically elected to accomplish this can't bring it about. They also don't understand why the President seems to complely ignore the wishes of the majority of the country. No one's getting out of this looking good.

In the end, though, while people may not like Congress and the moment, the reason why Congress has a low approval rating is worlds away from why BushCo has a low approval rating. It's a mistake to think that the average voter doesn't realize exactly where the problem is when it comes to their elected Congressmen passing legislation the voters want.

And, for parity's sake, we should also remember that, while this may be the most unpopular Congress in polling history, Bush has been the most unpopular President since Truman in polling history, and Bush has been unpopular for a damn sight longer than Truman ever was.

Oh leave poor anon alone. So cute, reminds me of me on my first few forays into right wing comment sections, just flip it, well you get it.

Anyway,
"The 49-member Senate Republican minority has done something no Senate minority in American history has ever done: they’ve filibustered more bills than any Congress ever has — and they broke the record with a full year to spare.
...

...“In just one session, a minority in Congress has prevented a mind-blowing 62 pieces of legislation from going to the floor for an up or down vote,” ...

...Eric Lotke, Campaign for America’s Future research director and lead author of the new report, calls the obstruction a “deliberate strategy.” He observes that the congressional Republicans block legislation, then blame the Democrats for getting nothing done. “It’s like mugging the postman and then complaining that the mail isn’t delivered on time.”

Brian Young, noting the historic quality of the achievement, added, “Only a group with a near-pathological disregard for the actual health of our democracy, only a group with a single-minded focus on the cynical political strategies of their consultants, only a group with an imperious disdain for the people of the country could’ve pulled off such a feat.”

Remember the hissy fit the Repubs threw when we even talked about a single fillibuster?
Nuclear Option ring a bell?

Ahh, to lie in a memoryless mirrorless world.
Blissful I suppose.

Anon is too busy allowing him or herself to be distracted with nonsense about Britney Spears' sister to be bothered by what's actually happening in Hollywood...I mean, Washington.

But thanks for keeping the rest of us informed.

That's the best you can do? Just more political propaganda about how it's all the Republicans' fault?

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!

Don't strain your fingers too much with that pointing, now. And, of course, just ignore the complete incompetence of democrat party "leadership" in Congress.....not to mention their corruption. Remember the big promise to end earmarking? Wow, did that go quickly by the wayside in their effort to buy votes.....
