Or Maybe Not
I'll be the first to admit it - I'm pissed off.
Cold-ass/bloody nose-inducing weather, sick and tired family members, dry skin, antagonistic friends and bitter co-workers - kiss my tiny, toned tushie.
Then I read this.
What happens when a journalist I admire and respect compares Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to Nixon and Kennedy - in the worst sense?
Matt Taibbi at his best. So I read. And then I stew. And then I wonder aloud, "Maybe he's right."
Can a candidate who takes such an enormous amount of money from pharmaceutical companies ever help us move toward universal health care? She voted for the war and never cried over *that*...
What about Obama? A more attractive package, hope and excitement is his aura, but what about his ideas are different?
"While Obama -- apparently spooked back into say-no-evil "general election mode" by his New Hampshire ass-whippings -- bared his vagina to the state of Nevada, Hillary coolly mopped the floor with him. She refused an invitation to describe him as "prepared" for the presidency -- a slight that was especially biting given that Obama had just moments before described his opponents as "capable" -- and reminded voters that her opponents might not be prepared enough to save them from two wars, a foreclosure crisis, a recession, terrorist threats and a host of other scary shit."
For the first time in my adult life I am unsure about our candidates, less hopeful about the future and disappointed that even Jon Stewart isn't a funny distraction anymore.
You heard me. A Daily Show blows without its writers.
Even Bill Clinton has turned into a prick.
At this point, I'm not sure who to caucus for on Tuesday.

who's your candidate now? al sharpton is still out there somewhere - maybe even ralph nader?
If BO can energize a former Republican-turned-cynic, I'd say he can beat Sen. "Stay the Course" McCain.
Bill Clinton didn't "turn into" a prick. He always has been a prick. Nice that you're finally beginning to figure that out, though.
This what Taibbi does, acerbic to the Nth, dead on mostly but dude, Nixon? Have a drink.
I see the race baiting as a convenient - in the sense of ratings and rhetoric - antiClinton media generated meme. Seriously, Bill is a racist? Thus Hillary by proxy? C'mon. It's so contrived. These two are fighting, is it a surprise? Don't hold out for the love fest. It will all be a distant memory once the real fight begins, Red v Blue.
Is McCain/Mittens a serious option?
Yesterday you said in your blog that you hope John's supporters would back Barack, now today you yourself are on the fence? What gives? Stop letting Matt Taibbi do your thinking for you.
Seriously, Bill Clinton is a racist. Look at who his life-long mentor was, and at his own actions and words. To what degree Hillary is a racist is a different question. But there is no doubt that the Clinton campaign has deliberately engaged in race-baiting, mostly through surrogates - example: that whole business about Obama being a drug dealer. Their choice of "strategy" in that regard is a real indicator of the candidate's personality and leadership style and habits.
I'm still leaning towards Obama. I'm not thrilled with any of the candidates (I'm still longing for General Clark), but Obama is the candidate I continue to return to. While I actually like Hilary (those who get over their stereotypes long enough to listen to what she really has to say are often surprised by how intelligent she is), I think she's too political (as well as polarizing). Since Obama hasn't been immersed in the political sphere as long as the Clinton family, I think he would be the better bet for resisting outside influences.
And yeah, I'm surprised by how much of an ass Bill has been lately. WTF?
And hey, "props" to you for having an open mind. I can't stand when people bitch and moan when other people change their opinions. With new information SHOULD come new ideas and opinions, but then again, Bush has shown that's not always the case.
Oh and your e-mail link isn't working. I've tried to e-mail you twice and they've been bounced back.
I don't know of anyone who thinks the problem with Hillary is that she isn't intelligent. Obviously, she is.
The problem with Hillary is that she is so power-hungry that she will do anything to anyone to get power.....and then she abuses it when she has it. Now THAT'S scary.....and a problem. THAT'S why she is so "polarizing," on top of her stated political agenda.
God Bless, us, we Democrats have always been cannibals. If Billary and Obama aren't careful, they'll do such a good job getting us to hate their primary opponent, the winner won't be able to sufficiently wash off the stink to beat the real opponent in the general election. Come on, guys, keep your eye on the ball!
Bill Clinton a racist? I love you guys, drop and give me 20, whatever you call someone that hates all people but thinks a Republcan is saving him a few ducats!
Sorry, the Democrats lost when the DNC decided Florida wasn't in their plans. McCain has already won. It could be worse, hell at least we'll get rid of some domestic survelance, and we won't condone torture anymore.
I wish Obama had a chance (there lies my vote,) I'd take Hilary, but I've got to settle for McCain. Geez, but that's the way it's gonna be. Sorry.
Coupla things:
I don't believe Hillary is going to bring us universal health care as soon as I'd like or at all. I don't think she's concerned about the poor and shrinking middle class. She sat on the board of Wal-Mart for crying out loud.
Barack Obama - if he mentions ethanol one more time, I might scream. Sure, ADM is in Illinois, we get it. But let's not go from bad to just as bad.
So you see - as brilliant as Matt Taibbi is, I've got my own issues and my own mind to make up. I don't like the strategies the Clintons are using either. Bill believes the the good will he's losing from people can be made up later - maybe he's right. But his attitude lately - politics as usual? - has bothered me a whole lot more than the Monica-phase.
Thanks Reiza.
Andyman - you are bringing me down! I agree with QJ, I think the voters are sick of the same old shit and that's all McCain is offering.
It's gonna be Hillary or Obama - I just wish they'd offer the kind of change they're touting.
We all could use it.
Ah Man, I don't want to bring anybody down. And I'm always wrong anyway. My election prediction was Edwards v Former NY Mayor, with Edwards winning. ER, wrong, wrong, and wrong. If Obama wins the nomination and tabs Edwards as VP I could be an ethusiastic supporter of that ticket. I believe it would do a good job. I believe it could win. Sadly I don't think it will win. Take solice, I am always wrong, ask any Republican!
If Obama wins the nom and the Pres, Edwards is getting tapped for AG, not VP. It's hard to tell who either Hillary or Obama might tap for VP at this point.
Edwards as AG, that would be a breath of fresh air.
Who was former State Asst. Majority Leader Michael Garcia supporting, Hillary or Obama? That might be a good indicator of who and who not to back.
Edwards as AG? Let the trial lawyers run rampant in the DOJ?
You're kidding, right?
As opposed to the incompetent lawyers like Gonzales, Anon12:09? At least Edwards will most likely remember things and, post Gonzales, it's pretty hard to further undermine the authority or reputation of the AG or DOJ any further.
Edwards is probably the best choice out there at the moment.
