Wouldn't You Like Your Chicken Without a Side of Vomit?
Chipotle is one of the more progressive places out here in which to grab a bite. Plenty of vegan offerings and for carnivores, their meat comes from animals who've never been given antibiotics or hormones.
So there's that.
Turns out, though, Chipotle isn't a big fan of controlled-atmosphere killing. This is when conscientious meat suppliers use drugs, instead of torture, to put chickens to sleep before cutting and gutting them in an effort to feed you.
I mean, really, if you're going to eat a dead animal, what's wrong with making sure it died in the most humane way possible? Not only is CAK humane, it's safer for humans and more profitable for the suits.
So there's that.
Some of the largest poultry sellers, like Safeway, CKE Restaurants (the parent company of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr.), McDonald's and Denny’s advocate for controlled-atmosphere killing with their poultry suppliers.
Contact Chipotle and ask them to join the list. Politely please. Thanks.

...and get them specifically to reject chicken water-boarding.
Noooooo.... Not Chipotle! I love Chipotle. That's, like, the only place in America that I can eat chicken tacos. Or it was, anyway. I will contact them right now.
The Chipotle response, which gets them off the hook -- so to speak -- in my book. I just can't give up the chicken soft tacos. Sorry.
Thanks for writing us, and unfortunately, not everyone is convinced that CAK (if that is to what you refer) is more humane than other methods, but we'll keep looking into it and other methods of slaughter. In any case, though, currently there is only one facility in the entire country that does this, and it wouldn't be practical for the time being.

Which method makes them more dead?
Thanks Ben. You rock. I don't think a boycott is necessary. But I do think we should ask them to consider a cruelty-free method.
Thanks again.
Hi Catherine,
Thank you for your email. We are considering CAK for the future. Right now, there is only one plant in the entire country that is utilizing that particular method. So, from a supply/demand standpoint, the practicality is not there yet. We're also not completely convinced that this method is more humane. But because it is important, we're looking into it for sure.
Thanks for caring.
Sincerely,
