Say It Ain't So, Lee Stranahan? To A Question You Shouldn't Even Be Asking?

Okay, I'm game.

This business about John Edwards, well, it doesn't bother me so much. Anyone who reads this site can't possibly be surprised by my response.

For those in the cheap seats, I will repeat what has become all too painfully clear: When or if a man cheats on his wife - it is an indication of nothing. Maybe he's a lousy husband. Maybe she's a lousy wife. Maybe the other woman is a gold digger.

But maybe not.

And none of it is our business.

Please spare me the Newt Gingrich comparison. Newt was a rotten human being long before his hypocritical ass went after Bill Clinton. That's the difference - Newt spoke in front of all the news cameras about character while cheating on his own wife. Newt, Bill, and maybe John have done what powerful people have been doing since time began.

Not so powerful people do it, too.

For all kinds of reasons.

And none of it is our business.

If we only knew how many presidents, able body, disabled, well meaning, all meaning, have cheated, snorted, smoked, well, wait, I guess that about hits them all.

Yes, it would be great if had perfect people leading our country, but that aint happening. The only way to handle the problem is answer all personal questions with, "That's none of your business." and move on.

There are guys like Florida's Jim Smith who when asked about an alledged affair Charlie Crist had with another man, said, "That has no bearing on our election, and I'll not respond to it." Very noble Jim, of course he didn't win.

But that's the way we are in this berg. Throw that mud and then duck!

I'm trying to understand why the Huffington Post decided to take up the banner passed along by... the National Enquirer? When the rumor first broke (a post I saw on Daily Kos) I started reading and people were giving all this high praise to the source. I mean, seriously? The National Enquirer? What the HELL, people! It's not The Sun, or the Weekly World News, but it's tabloid trash more than investigative journalism.

Well, you asked, too...so, hi...

I'm going to cut and paste things from a new piece I'm working on so you may see this somewhere else in a day or two...

In the end, this isn't about judging John Edward's kink or playing holier than thou. It's about the increasingly realistic possibility that John Edwards pursued a reckless course of action while seeking the Democratic nomination for the nation's highest office. If so, that's a serious betrayal of the voters who supported Edwards or considered voting for him. Maybe when you're running for President isn't a good time to have an affair.

It seems to me that independent voters want both hardcore Democrats and Republicans to knock it off, already. Stop the bullshit, stop the games, stop the unfair attacks. That means independents DON'T want to hear Democrats say that an affair doesn't matter or is a distraction. See, those indie voters remember all the fun we had making fun of Larry Craig and David Vitter and Mark Foley. They remember Bill Clinton, too and what a drag that was and they don't want to hear Democrats make excuses. Those indie voters may or may not care that Clinton cheated but they don't like that he lied to the everyone about.

I don't want voters equally disgusted with both Democrats and Republicans. I want them to like Democrats and vote for them.

Be careful up there on that pedestal, John. It's so easy to fall off.

I'm not comfortable saying John Edwards is a sleazy piece of shit. He's done a lot of good for people and we are more than just a few of our actions. We are the sum total. I know too many people who have strayed. They still make wonderful fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, human beings, and yes, spouses.

Labeling everyone who does something wrong as sleazy leaves no one left to play ball with, big guy. Talk to a few people whom you consider heroes and discover they too are flawed. We all are.

So give me a break.

If we are going to assign motives to John Edwards, saying he pursued a reckless course of action, then why not also consider that he knew he'd never get the nomination and ran to bring some huge issues to the nation's attention. It's never a good time to have an affair and it seems to *me* that you're saying voters aren't pissed about that so much as the lies covering it up. Since I'm moving ever closer to Independent Voter Land, let me speak for myself. I'm pissed that people like Larry Craig and Mark Foley are hypocritical about it. Calling press conferences denouncing what they themselves secretly participate in.

Democrats lose voters because they align themselves with corporate interests and sell out the very people who form the backbone of their party. Voters are disgusted about *that.*

The lies about sex and the sex itself don't matter too much when you can't pay for gas or are faced with losing your job and your house.

I labeled one guy as sleazy. John Edwards.

Cheating on your wife, who is dying of cancer, ranks right up there on the sleazy scale.
