Values Voters Must Go With Obama

Republicans all up in arms about John Edwards - who ya gonna vote for? I mentioned this issue months ago (here is a recent article) and my hypocritical friends are all kinds of confused.

Best response came from dear old dad.

Dad: Cheaters can't be President because they can't be trusted.

Me: Oh yeah? Then I guess you won't be voting for McCain because he's had a problem in that department.

(long pause)

Dad: He gets a pass.

Me: Why?

Dad: They messed up his head in Vietnam. He probably wasn't thinking straight.

Me: But he can think straight now and lead our country?

Dad: No politics at the table.

I really do love that guy.

We should all try to guess what is running through McCain's mind as he walks arm in arm with Mrs. Regan. How about "Jesus I hope she doesn't die before I can get her to her seat".

The other question for dad:

Which head, and for how long has it been messed up?

I'll catch hell for this, probably.

But the one thing I can't accept in a politician is infidelity.

You're spouse can't trust you, neither can I. Period.

I wouldn't cheat on someone who trusted me. I wouldn't accept anything less, not from anyone. You're on my side, or not.

It's why I think Bill Clinton is a bad person. It's why I din't vote for Hillary, for putting up with it.

Barack and his wife seem to be on the level with each other. But if it comes to a point where she can't trust him, why the hell should I?

Folks who know me know I've got a ton of faults, most of which involve beer ... lots of beer.

But if I've got your back, I've got your back. Sometimes, you just don't want me anywhere near your back.

I've been into his music of late.

Oh, Chase. Chase. Chase. Chase.

What exactly does it mean that you can't trust him? Spell it out for me. Like I'm stupid or something. Because I can't for the life of me understand what you are talking about.

What exactly do you think a good president does that a good president who's unfaithful could not do? Boil it down for me. Seriously.

George Washington could not be "trusted" to lead us through the Revolutionary War? Teddy Roosevelt could not be "trusted" to fight for child labor laws? FDR could not be "trusted" to get our country out of the Great Depression and through WWII?

Or do you mean that a person cannot be trust with your life if he is unfaithful? Like, you mean that Dwight D. Eisenhower couldn't be trusted to have your back? I bet his soldiers in WWII would beg to differ. Or how about Oskar Schindler over in Poland? He was a SERIAL philanderer so that must mean the thousands of Jews he saved couldn't trust him?

Come on, you are smarter than someone who needs to reduce people and actions they don't understand to a one-sentence stereotype with absolutely ZERO facts to back it up.

Turns out, you can trust them. Whether you "think" it or not. There are too many examples to name. And it also turns out, none of them, not even Bill Clinton, are bad men.

You can think differently if you want.

Some people enjoy making no sense.

I knew we'd disagree here, and I do think Bill Clinton is a bad person, I really believe that. If he was my neighbor, I wouldn't lend him my lawn mower.

Someone who can rationalize cheating on a spouse can rationalize helping themself to public funds, can rationalize violating public trust, can rationalize anything by saying, "It doesn't make me a bad person."

For me, somethings things are just black and white.

Spousal fidelity is not one of the skills I am looking for in a politician. Not that I'm looking for a swordsman. I'm looking for someone who will look out for U.S. interests. If that means he is going to have to lie to other world leaders while they lie to him, so be it.

An honest polictican is one that stays bought. The one's that profess a commitment to a noble cause scare the hell out of me. They can rationalize changing their mind six times before lunch, because of pitched principals.

I'm paying for a president with my vote, and I expect him to stay bought. I could care less where he parks his car.

Oh okay, Bill Clinton might be a bad person. I don't know him personally. I met him once and he was very nice. But I can't speak to the content of his character with any degree of certainty.

I'm sure you realize that a man who is faithful to his wife can also justify or rationalize violating public trust. To suggest that those who cheat will do violate the rules of office more often is one of those fun things that feels good to say but is not backed up by one ounce of historical precedent or proof.

That's why we have the rule of law. That's what ensures a politican doesn't help himself to public funds. And if he does, there is an avenue to pursue legal action.

Which is why our trust is immaterial. Doesn't matter. If it did, we wouldn't have laws for elected officials. We'd only elect "good" people we can "trust."

You remind me of one of "those people" who think homosexuals are bad until they meet one or find out they're related to one. F*cks 'em all up. Jars their world. But it's good for them, too.

You'll see someday. We're all just trying our best to get on in the world. A bad husband doesn't necessarily mean a bad person.

Be Christlike, Chase. Be Christlike.

Kisses.

McCain deserves the "piece of shit" title, too. He was a total piece for doing that to his first wife. The difference between McCain and Edwards is that Edwards was doing it in the middle of his campaign to become the most powerful person in the world (so nice that he waited for his wife's cancer to go into remission, right?). What if he'd won? The baby daddy would be under some serious blackmail threats. And that's ignoring the hush money that has already been spent.
